Alcohol is the most used substance in Indiana and the United States. In Indiana, just under half the population age 12 or older reporting alcohol use in the past month, according to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

About 1 in 20 Hoosiers suffer from alcohol use disorder, a disease defined by uncontrolled drinking and a dependence on alcohol. Over 7,400 Hoosiers were admitted to Indiana treatment facilities related to alcohol dependence in 2019, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
